The concealed ducted type indoor unit was originally designed for, and is still widely used in buildings which use a suspended ceiling grid with removable tiles. The entire unit is hidden within the ceiling void and air ducting is then installed to intake and discharge air to/from the space to be conditioned – often via discreet grilles or valves which replace the removable tile

Nowadays it has become increasingly common to concealed ducted units even when there is no ceiling to hide the unit.
